    Irish Soda Bread

Post by oceanna on Thu Mar 15, 2012 10:58 am

Soda Bread is a favourite with many folks for St. Patrick's Day.

    Irish Soda Bread

    2 cups white flour
    2 cups whole wheat flour
    1/2 cup sugar
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    4 tablesppons butter, chilled
    1 cup raisins or currents
1 1/2 cups buttermilk or yogurt

    Heat oven to 350 degrees.
In a bowl combine dry ingredients.
Cut in butter until pea sized.
Stir in raisins and buttermilk or yogurt.
Turn dough onto a floured surface, knead one minute and shape in a circle.
Cut an X in the top and bake on greased baking sheet for 45 to 50 minutes.
Makes one 8 inch wide loaf.

That sounds very easy. Have you ever made soda bread? Thanks for posting.
