    Hamburger Controversy!

Post by oceanna on Sat Mar 10, 2012 12:30 pm

There has been so much on the news lately about hamburger that I don't know if I'll ever buy it again.

I don't even want to think about 'pink slime' much less eat it. It has been stated that ammonia is used to kill bacteria in the meat by-products!
Does anyone want to eat something with ammonia in it?

I have a very good recipe for meatloaf but unless I can get ground meat without these disgusting by-products I will likely never make it again.

What's your opinion on the controversy
    about hamburger?

I think it is disgusting what they put in our foods period. I watched a program on it and it was unbelievable that the government would allow this. I am confident we have stricter standards in Canada but it makes me wonder since we are such copycats.

I rarely have a hamburger much less go out of my way to buy one. Guess I won't be buying them anymore. I usually buy the Filet of fish sandwich at McD.

Looks like grinding your own is the only way to go.

Maybe buying a meat grinder is a good idea. Could also use it for sausage making too.

Wonder if we go to a meat market and watch them grind a roast into hamburger if it would help?

That would be the way to go.

I buy very little ground meat in the supermarkets so I have no fear. I have a butcher close by and I can usually see what he is doing behind glass.

Eating out is a worrisome event because their beef patties are preformed. McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc. astonished08 surprised

Well after all that controversy over burghers and mince we are now facing 'mis-labelling' of the products. A lot of so called minced BEEF dishes, burghers, lasagne, chilli etc.....are suspected of containing HORSEMEAT!
The last report I heard was that there was traces of sea horses in Findus Fish Fingers!
