    Upside Down Hanging Tomatoe Planters

Post by sunnysideup on Fri May 21, 2010 10:04 pm

Does anyone have one of these tomato planters which have tomatoes growing upside down? I saw one today at Canadian Tire but it was $17.00 a bit much for me :)-

    Hi sunnysideup

No I don't have one and I don't want one. I plant mine in the ground and put a cage around them.

I am trying to stay away from containers because they dry out too fast, therefore require more maintenance. I know this person who bought 50 geraniums along with other plants and most of them ended up in pots. Then she complains about all the work she has to do to maintain them.

I have made up 4 pots this year. Two large ones for the corners of my garage and two urns for the front. Not because I wanted to but my daughter gave me the urns for my birthday and if I don't use them, I may hurt her feelings. Anyway this is my first year with such large containers. If they look great, I will fill them again next year.

Remember some years ago they had the flower bags. I had many of those and they dried out so fast. I had to sink the whole bag in a tub to water the plants. That was a job. They look great but start doing some weight lifting for a tomato plant. Very Happy

This is true, also Durgan the gardener says they put too much stress on the plants. Okay, I've got one lonely little tomato plant now in a pot. Very Happy and some herbs. That way, when we go up north I can take them with me.
