    Keeping Geraniums through the Winter

Post by islandgrl on Sat Jan 07, 2012 2:56 am

Last year I saved the whole plant (approximately 12 plants. This year I took cuttings and saved seedlings that sprung up from the faded blooms. I have 23 in all and all those cuttings that survived. Some of them are in bloom. It is the best way to go with saving this plant, IMHO.

    some of the seedlings

Those are healthy looking plants and you have a good start for spring.
I brought in one geranium and put it in the basement, cut it back a bit and put it on a table near a window.
It seems to be doing okay so I might have one to put out in the garden around the end of May.

This picture contains 3 pots of cuttings that are in bloom. I have them all under lights in the basement and it can be dull when there is no sun. On sunny days it is very bright and hopefully they will survive.

The seedlings are coming along beautifully. I didn't repot them but added more soil to the pots. Would you believe the whole tray fell over and dumped the plants on the floor. I picked them up and put the soil back in, gave them a bit of water and they seem to be doing fine now.

Your Geraniums are very healthy looking and they will be a colourful
    addition to your garden.
I wish I had your green thumb.
