I have a plant of violets in my flower bed but I don't think it was wild. Got it from my daughter. I have to watch it as it may get wild and out of control.

The trillium is Ontario's provincial flower. I have the red and white ones in my garden and in the fencelines. The white one is also the state flower of Ohio.

    Lovely pictures Islandgrl.
I did not know there was a red trillium, it is beautiful.

We have the pretty Painted Trillums growing here in wooded areas. Many areas where they used to grow are now subdivisions or developed land so many were destroyed. That is sad to me and I do not pick them when I come across them because they are not plentiful in this county. Ladyslippers cannot be found in large quantities as they once were and they are an endangered species here.

Thanks for those beautiful pics Islandgrl.

    Thanks Oceanna

I have seen yellow trilliums online for sale and are found in New Zealand if I remember correctly. They are much larger than the ones here though.

The pink lady slipper orchid is listed as an endangered species. I have about 3 clumps which I saved from a roadside. I have had them for about 4 years. They are popping out of the ground now so there will be flowers, Very Happy to post. I think it takes 7 years from seed to flower. Is it any wonder they are protected. Happy to say I am protecting mine.

I am surprised they are still alive because I got them out of a swampy area. I am blessed with dry sandy soil. Very Happy I mulch them with lots of shredded leaves for the Winter.
