    Food Safety

Post by oceanna on Sat Mar 26, 2011 9:03 pm

I buy local produce whenever possible and try to stay clear of foods from China and Mexico.
However, it is not always easy to know where canned and processed foods come from.
Sometimes they are packaged or labelled here and it's not shown where they were produced.

Do you worry about the food that is on the shelves in the supermarkets?

Yes, very much. Prefer to buy Australian grown foods but we also get a heap of stuff from China and Indonesia and there have been a few scares. Nothing you can do about it I suppose. Some things simply are not done in Australia these days so I suppose its a case of just close your eyes and hope for the best!

I am most concerned about our food pruducts being imported from Japan/China and surrounding areas with the radiation scares!

Further to my concerns....are the unclearly identified expiry dates on products. I write the date of purchase on my canned and packaged goods, when I purchase them ,but often, the "use-before" date does not appear of the item, or there is a bunch of numbers and symbols that is illegible to the consumer. Ugh!

I never particularly worry about expiry dates Willow. I can often buy things cheaply when their 'use by' date is near expiration. Saves me a heap of money at times.
